Leona Irene Greckel, 85, of West Point died October 26, 2004 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Scribner. Leona was born April 2, 1919 at Pilger to Gustav and Ida Kirch Hass. She attended Country School District 14 in Stanton County and was a Wisner High School Graduate in 1936. She married Kenneth Greckel October19, 1941 at her parent’s home. Leona worked as a cook for the West Point Public Schools and as a clerk at Bob’s Bakery, retiring in the mid 1980’s. Leona was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school and was a member of Ladies Aide, Lutheran Women Missionary League, VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries. Leona had been a Cub Scout den mother and was Red Cross and West Point Living Center volunteer. She had also served as Flower Superintendent for the Cuming County Fair. Leona enjoyed traveling, cooking and baking and had a real passion for growing flowers especially Iris. Survivors include sons Allen (Mickey) of Kearney and Robert (Diane) of Coppell, Texas, grandchildren Mark (Jody) Greckel, Jenny (Paul) Kreikemeier, Melissa, Angie and Amy Greckel, great grandchildren, Brandon Greckel and Jesse Kreikemeier. She is preceded in death by her husband Kenny in May of 2004, sisters Cedonia Henke and Vernie Handke, brother Henry Hass and a great grandson Jacob Kreikemeier. Services will be 10:30 am. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Reverend Robert Hedtke officiating. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be 9:00 am. until 8:30 pm. Friday at Stokely Funeral Home with family receiving friends 5:00 pm. until 7:00pm. VFW and American Legion Auxiliary Rites will be at 7:00 pm. Friday at Stokely Funeral Chapel.
