Larry Kermit Peterson, 76, of West Point, died Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Veteran’s Hospital in Omaha. Funeral Services will be 1:00 pm Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at Grace Lutheran Church in West Point with Reverend Mark Eldal as officiant. Burial with Military Honors will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 am to 8 pm Tuesday with family receiving friends from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm Tuesday at Stokely Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to West Point Sportsman’s Club. Larry Kermit Peterson was born October 30, 1936 in West Point, NE to Kermit and Alice (Jahnke) Peterson. He grew up in Cuming County northeast of West Point, was confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Oakland and was a 1954 graduate of West Point High School. Larry served in the US Army and US Army Reserves from October 11, 1958 to August 26, 1964 and was called to active duty during the Berlin Crisis. On April 25, 1961, Larry married JoAnn Kaup and the couple farmed northeast of West Point where they raised their family. Larry farmed and was employed at IBP for 35 years, retiring in 2001. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Oakland and attended the 111th Quarter Master Platoon’s annual reunion. He enjoyed fishing, farm sales, traveling and watching westerns. Survivors include daughters Laurena Marr of West Point, Lois (Mark) Niewohner of Lyons, Lisa Christiansen of North Sioux City, SD, Joanne (Brad) Tuch of Lincoln, and Kae (Kent) Pytlik of Elkhorn; sons Lawrence (Grace) of West Point, Steven (Deanna) of Bancroft, Joseph of Ceresco, Kermit of West Point and James of West Point; grandchildren Loren, Vanessa and Abigail Peterson, Sheridan, and Elliot Marr, Justine, Jesse and Jasmine Smidt, Tiffany (Jesse) Raabe, Kimberly and Alex Peterson, Gary and Nate Christiansen, Caitlyn Peterson, Shelby and Everleigh Pytlik; great-grandchildren Mackinnzie Smidt; brother Gail (Wanda) Peterson of Crofton; brothers-in-law Joseph (Connie) Kaup Jr. of Snyder, Ervin Kaup; sisters-in-law Monica (Dennis) Tomka of Howells and Anna (Leo) Goeken of Stanton;. He is preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn, April 26, 2012; daughter Jeanne Peterson in 1973, and granddaughter Chelsie Smidt in 1987. |
