Bernard James Smyth, 64 of Centennial. Colorado, formerly of Ogallala Nebraska, died suddenly, Thursday, September 18, at his home. Memorial services will be 10:00 am. Friday, September 26, 2008 at Gubser Funeral Chapel in Ogallala with Pastor Robert Payne of Calvary Baptist Church in North Platte officiating. Burial will be in the Ogallala Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to the Make-a-Wish Foundation or to the Susan G. Komen Cancer Foundation. Stokely Funeral Home in West Point is in charge of arrangements. Bernie was born November 13, 1943 at Spalding, NE to Patrick and Evelyn Woodley Smyth, moving to Ogallala as a small child. He graduated from Ogallala Public High School in 1962 and attended McCook Junior College. Bernie served in the Army National Guard for 6 years attaining the rank of Sergeant. While in Ogallala, Bernie worked for TRW. In December, 1973, he married Darla Morrell Fosbinder in Greeley, Colorado. Bernie worked as a Materials Manager and Production Planner for several companies in Colorado including; Honeywell Photographic Products Div., Capco Inc., Storage Technology Corp., Optotech, Inc, Marquest Medical Productions, Windsor Industries, Mile High Equipment Co. (ICE-O-MATIC), Teledyne Water Pik, and Hunter Douglas WFD, retiring in May of 2008. Bernie enjoyed hunting, riding his ATV, and golf. Survivors include his wife, Darla, of Centennial, CO, sons; Shad Smyth of Aurora, Sean (Jennifer) Smyth of Parker, CO, and Robert (Stephanie) Chase of Jackson, Georgia, 5grandchildren, Adrienne & Cassandra Smyth, Nathan, Anthony and Julia Chase, sister, Linda Martens of Grant, mother-in-law, Irene Morrell of Ft. Collins, CO, niece Shelley French and family of Ogallala and nephew Greg Pollard and family of Grant. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Donald, Larry, Robert and Mike, and father-in-law, Guy Morrell. |
