Margaret Franzluebbers was born on July 2,1928 to John and Augusta (Ermels) Steffensmeier on the family farm near Monterey. She attended St. Boniface Catholic School to the 8th grade. On June 21, 1951, Margaret married John Franzluebbers at St. Boniface Catholic Church. Margaret was a devoted farm wife, supporting John in the daily challenges and joys of agricultural life until his passing in 1976. After John’s death, Margaret found a new chapter in her life. She worked as a cook in the cafeteria at Guardian Angels School for an impressive 28 years. Margaret retired from her role at the age of 79, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and nourishment for generations of students. Margaret was a member of St. Mary’s Guild and Christian Mothers. Known for her love of reading newspapers, Margaret was always well-informed and enjoyed engaging in conversations with anyone, especially while grocery shopping or wherever she would go. Her sense of humor brought joy to those around her, and her home became a gathering place for many family gatherings with lots of good food, fun and laughter. She had an infamous candy dish that was always filled with chocolates and Tootsie Rolls, a basement refrigerator of pop and a freezer with Schwann’s ice cream treats that her children and grandchildren loved and enjoyed. Margaret was an avid fan of high school sports, especially when her grandchildren were playing them. She would listen to other area teams when the Bluejays weren’t playing and in her later years, became a Husker and Creighton fan which was often a popular topic of conversation when visiting her at her home and later at the Villa. Her genuine interest in others made her a beloved figure in the lives of many and her love of God, faith and family was unwavering and steadfast throughout her life.
