Priscilla Hukki as officiant. Burial will be at Beemer Cemetery with lunch following at the church hall. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00pm to 7:00pm with family receiving friends from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at Stokely Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Cuming County Fair Foundation. Arrangements by Stokely Funeral Home. Russell L. Mowinkel was born on September 26, 1929 to George and Exilda (Kai) Mowinkel at the family farm in Sarpy County. After losing his father in an accident at a young age, he was raised by family. After graduating from Gretna High School, he worked for William Seivers Trucking where he met Geraldine Seivers. On January 6, 1950, the couple married and to this union were born 6 children. They farmed by Gretna and Elkhorn before purchasing their farm by Beemer in 1966. Farming was his way of life but he always enjoyed being around people. He belonged to numerous card clubs playing a variety of games. After the passing of his wife, Geraldine, in 1989, he continued to farm and began courting Marcella Kohl. On April 4, 1992, the couple married. Russell continued to farm and attended his grandchildren’s activities on a regular basis. Russell and Sally moved to Beemer and lived there until Sally moved to the nursing home. Russell continued to live in Beemer until June of 2018 when he moved to Wisner Care Center for health reasons. Russell was active in many organizations including the Farm Bureau, Nebraska Dairymen, Mid Am Dairy, and the Dairy Herd Improvement Association. These organizations required some political activism by going to Lincoln or Washington D. C. to lobby. Locally, he was active in the Grace Lutheran Church Council, school board member, and a 4-H leader and Cuming County 4-H Dairy Superintendent for many years. One of his greatest pleasures was watching his children and grandchildren show dairy cattle at the County Fair, District Dairy Show, State Fair, and Aksarben. Russell is survived by children, George (Jayne) Mowinkel of West Point, Dan Mowinkel of Scribner, Sally (Rodger) Hiebenthal of Herman, Diane (John) Capazo of Carter Lake, IA, Sandy Witt of Sebring, FL, and Bill (Mary Jo) Mowinkel of Grand Island; step-children, Diane Lemieux of Council Bluffs, IA, Nancy Gatzemeyer of Bancroft, Judy (Darrell) Fuhr of Leigh, and Patsy (Allen) Hanson of Omaha; stepdaughter-in-law, Carolyn Kohl of Central City; stepson-in-law, Paul (Maren) Reppert, Jr. of West Point; many grandchildren, step grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren. Russell is preceded in death by his first wife, Geraldine; second wife, Marcella; parents; brothers, Chester Mowinkel and Gary Harazin; sisters, Helen Weeth, Ruth Dohse, Ester Schuldt, and Reva Hansen; and daughter-in-law, Pam Mowinkel.
