Paul J. Spenner, 82, of rural West Point, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, March 6, 2008 at his farm home. Funeral Service will be 2:00 pm Monday, March 10, 2008 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point with burial in St. Michael’s Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, March 9 at Stokely Funeral Home from noon to 4:00 pm. Vigil Service will be held at 6:00 pm Sunday at St. Mary’s Church. Memorials can be made to Guardian Angels Endowment Fund or family choice. Stokely Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Paul was born May 11, 1925, on the family farm west of West Point to Ignatius and Anna Risse Spenner. He attended Guardian Angels Catholic School, was a veteran of the U. S. Army and farmed all his life. On August 25, 1953, he married Rita Maresh at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dodge, NE. The couple farmed west of West Point, retiring in 2008. Paul was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, former Parish Council member, usher, cantor, funeral choir member for 30 years and Eucharistic Minister for many years. Paul was a nature lover, enjoyed wildlife, traveling and reading. He was an organic farmer, an employee and active member in the National Farmers Organization for more than 25 years. Survivors include his wife, Rita Spenner of West Point; children, Tom Spenner of Boise, ID, Kathleen (James) Boehringer, Yukon, OK, Mike (Ginny) Spenner, Missoula, MT, Diane (Stan) Spomer, Buena Vista, CO, Mark (Linda) Spenner, West Point, NE, John (Ginger) Spenner, Bellevue, NE, Bob (Carol) Spenner, West Point, NE, Elaine (Loren) Ruskamp, Firth, NE, Jackie (Roger) Hansen, Boise, ID; 14 grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren; 1 great grandchild and 12 step great grandchildren; brothers, Ferdinand (Pauline) Spenner of Hartington, NE, Bernard (Eva) Spenner of Tekamah, NE, ; sisters, Sr. Leovigild Spenner of Manitowoc, WI, Sr. Ann Spenner of Manitowoc, WI, Mathilda (Elno) Zikmund of Omaha, NE, Dorothy Steffen of Hartington, NE, Frances Bockholt of Fordyce, NE. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, 4 sisters and 2 half-sisters.
