May Dee Stoltzman, 100, formerly of West Point, died Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Nye Pointe in Fremont. Graveside services at the Lyons, NE cemetery will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Stokely Funeral Home.

May Dee Virginia Stoltzman was born October 12, 1925, in Bancroft, Nebraska to John and Wylma (Renner) Howard. Her family moved to West Point when she was a young girl. May Dee graduated from West Point Public School in 1943. She was united in marriage to Marvin Stoltzman on June 13, 1947, in David City, NE. The couple made their home in West Point where they worked and raised their family. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.

May Dee’s excellent organizational skills led her to work for the West Point Republican newspaper for 10+ years as a reporter, photographer and columnist. During her employment at the newspaper, she also hosted a weekly radio show covering West Point news and life called “The Sunny Side of the Street.” In the late 1960’s, she left the newspaper and enjoyed 25 years of employment as the West Point City Clerk. She retired from that position in December 1993. May Dee participated in the planning and construction of the new Municipal Building and the John A. Stahl Library. She was a member of the Nebraska Municipal Clerks Association serving as the organization’s President from 1989 – 1990. She was an active member of the West Point Community Theatre where over the years directed, acted and stage managed several productions.

May Dee was a caring person, willing to help those in need and serve her community. She was a long-time ambassador for West Point and had a great love for the city, local politics and journalism.

Survivors include son Monte of Gurnee, IL, daughter Michelene Kracht of Omaha, NE, 3 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and sister Addie Bjorgen of Grand Rapids, MN.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Marvin in 1971; and brothers John Howard, Jr of St. Paul, MN and brother, Roy Howard of Coatsfield, NE.
