Mary “Mae” Lund, 78, of West Point, died Sunday, November 23, 2025 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha. Memorial service will be 2:00pm on Sunday, December 21 at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Rev. John Gierke officiating. Lunch will be in the church hall following the service. Burial at Stanton Cemetery will be at a later date. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service on Sunday. Memorials may be made to Relay for Life. Arrangements by Stokely Funeral Home.
Mary Rita Lund was born on February 12, 1947, in West Point to Joseph Krupka and Philomena “Minnie” (Gall) Krupka. She attended St. Wenceslaus Catholic Elementary School before graduating from Dodge Public High School in 1966.
After high school, Mae headed west to St. Helena, California, where she spent time with her brother Melvin and his family. She returned home that fall, and in 1967 began working at Dale’s Electronics in Columbus. On January 6, 1968, Mae married Larry Lund at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Their first daughter, Jean, was born on December 9, 1968, while they were living in Stanton, Nebraska.
As Larry’s service in the U.S. Navy continued, Mae embraced the life of a military wife with grace and adaptability. Their family lived in Pennsylvania, Georgia, Virginia, Texas, Tennessee, and California. Along the way, Mae worked and made connections wherever she went—selling Avon during their first stay in Texas and later working in the Navy Exchange Flower Shop during their time in California. Their second daughter, Jody, was born on December 15, 1973.
When Larry retired from the Navy in 1991, Mae and Larry returned to Nebraska to be closer to home. Mae continued working over the years at places that allowed her to share her friendly smile and warm spirit, including Bubbles of Joy in West Point and the West Point News. They eventually settled into retirement in West Point, where Mae devoted much of her time to causes and people she loved.
Mae was happiest when helping others. She volunteered at St. Paul Lutheran School for 16 years, becoming a familiar and cherished presence to students and staff. Her dedication to her Walking Stars Cancer Fundraising Team spanned 20 years for Relay for Life. A deeply patriotic woman, Mae carried tremendous pride for the military members in her family and for all who serve.
Family was at the center of Mae’s world. She treasured every moment spent with her daughters and grandchildren, celebrating milestones, sharing laughter, and offering endless encouragement.
Mae is survived by her daughters Jean (Paul) Shonka of Dodge and Jody Greckel of West Point; grandchildren, Brandon (Tina Pensyl) Greckel of West Point, Jessica (Trevin) Foltz of Humphrey, Justin (fiancée Karmen Koch) Shonka of Dodge; great grandchildren, Aubree Pensyl, Addiley Foltz, and Kinsley Foltz; brothers, Joseph (Toni) Krupka of Plattsburg, NY, Melvin (Maggie) Krupka of St. Helena, CA, Ronald (Mary) Krupka of Rapid City, SD, Kenneth (Vicky) Krupka of Beemer, Eugene (Karen) Krupka of Fremont, Raymond (Linda) Krupka of Naverra, FL, Glenn Krupka of Sioux Falls, SD, and 34 nieces and nephews. Mae is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Larry; siblings, Marvin (Helen) Krupka, Marlene (Delvin) Hegemann, Richard (Viola) Krupka, Larry Krupka, and Duane (Gail) Krupka.
