Mary Louise Baumert was born April 6, 1937, to George and Catherine (Dolejs) Miller on the family farm near Olean, NE. Mary attended Sacred Heart Academy at Olean through the eighth grade and graduated from Dodge Public High School in 1955. After her high school years, she contributed to the family business at Gamble’s Hardware Store and Miller Electric.

On September 17, 1957, Mary married Marius Baumert at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dodge. Together, they made their home on the Baumert family farm near Aloys, where Mary devoted herself to raising their family. After her children were in school, she worked various jobs and eventually retired after more than 25 years in the kitchen at Wisner Care Center.

Mary had a talent for baking, especially bread—her cinnamon bread was a favorite among the family and neighbors, who were delighted each Christmas when she made special deliveries. She earned blue ribbons at the county fair for her bread and perfected many kinds of homemade jams too. Mary was an avid quilter, active in quilting groups in both Dodge and West Point. Mary had a passion for reading and instilled a deep appreciation for books in her children and grandchildren.

Throughout her married life, Mary was actively involved at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, contributing to both the Ladies Guild and choir.
