Funeral Service will be 2:00pm on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at Grace Lutheran Church in West Point with Rev. Priscilla Hukki as officiant. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery with lunch following at the church hall. Visitation will be Monday from 2:00pm to 7:00pm with family receiving friends from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Stokely Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church. Marvin Elmer Von Seggern was born on March 24, 1922 to J. Henry and G. Bertha (Von Essen) Von Seggern on a farmnorth of Scribner. He attended District 36 School and graduated from Scribner High School in 1939. On January 28, 1951, Marvin married Irene Carlson at Grace Lutheran Church in West Point. The couple farmed in the Scribner area until moving to a farm northeast of West Point in 1959. Marvin was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and served on the church council. Music was very instrumental in his life. Marvin played the trumpet and saxophone, was a member of the Cuming Choraliers, and more recently sang solos at church on his birthday. Marvin loved to travel. The family journeyed to Germany, Switzerland, and Sweden to visit Irene’s family and to every state in the United States. Their picture has been taken in front of every state capital building. Marvin was extremely proud to ride his 1936 John Deere A tractor in the Cuming County Fair parade. Marvin is survived by his daughter, Roxanne, of West Point; sisters, Doloris Popken of Fremont and Beverly (Martin) Homes of Blair; sisters-in-law, Lois Von Seggern of Scribner and Alice Blanknagel of Beemer; and brothers-in-law Ernest Carlson of Marietta, GA and Lloyd Olson of Tekamah. Marvin is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Irene in 2011; and siblings, Minerva Ivans, Eileen Drieling, Wilma Miller, Lucille Mallon, Les Von Seggern, and Harlan Von Seggern.
