Marian Brockmann was born on August 13, 1933 in West Point to Harry and Adella (Schmidt) Ludwig. Baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Beemer, Marian’s faith was a cornerstone throughout her life. She attended a local country school where she often rode her beloved horse, Seabiscuit, to class and graduated from Beemer High School.
Marian pursued her passion for caregiving by attending nursing school in St. Louis. Fate intervened when she met her future husband, Melburn Brockmann, after the two were in a minor car accident on the Beemer Bridge. The couple married on February 5, 1956, at St. John Lutheran Church in Beemer. Together, they farmed, raised livestock, and built a life filled with love, community, and cherished traditions.
Throughout her career as a nurse, Marian worked at Colonial Haven Nursing Home, St. Francis Memorial Hospital, and St. Joseph’s Retirement Community, as well as served as a school nurse. A woman of deep faith and a heart full of generosity, Marian was an active member of the Ladies Aid at Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she also sang in the choir. She also regularly volunteered for the Blood Mobile.
Marian and Melburn were known for their warm hospitality, hosting neighborhood gatherings, lively fish fries, and unforgettable Fourth of July parties. Marian’s green thumb made her garden a place of beauty, and she found joy in golf outings and fishing on the airboat. An expert in the kitchen, she delighted friends and family with her fried chicken, blondie bars, and apple crisp. Marian treasured playing cards, especially games of pitch and sheephead, with friends and family.
Marian is survived by her husband, Melburn; children, Mike (Jody) of West Point, Marcia Brockmann of Battle Creek, Ted (Joanna), Don (Colleen), Chris (Kim) all of West Point, and Corrine (Duane) Wordekemper of Omaha; daughter-in-law, Lorna Brockmann of Hoskins; 23 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren; and brother-in-law, Rodger Anderson of West Point. She is preceded in death by her parents; son, Tom Brockmann; grandchildren, Jason Brockmann and Brooke Brockmann; and sister, Jane Anderson.
