LeRoy B. Dinslage, 74, of Elmwood, died Saturday, November 16, 2024 at his home. A Celebration of Life will be 7:00pm on Thursday at Stokely Funeral Home. Visitation will be prior to the service from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Memorials may be made to GACC Endowments.
LeRoy “Buck” Dinslage was born on August 25, 1950, to Ben and Beata (Doescher) Dinslage in West Point. He was baptized in his faith shortly after his birth. He attended Guardian Angels and West Point Central Catholic, graduating 1969. He enjoyed playing sports for the Bluejays and particularly enjoyed playing football.
LeRoy was united in marriage to Janice Mace in November of 1969. During their 26 year union they were blessed with three children: Kelli, Kris, and Ben.
LeRoy drove truck for Stalp Gravel along with his brother Jerome before starting his career with West Point Public Schools in 1974 where he dedicated over 30 years as a custodian, maintenance worker, and bus driving. LeRoy genuinely cared for the students and took pride in being a dependable part of their school experience.
An avid sports enthusiast, LeRoy coached Marv’s 275 softball team, umpired softball games, and golfed. He loved sharing his passion for golf with friends and newcomers alike, always willing to teach those who wanted to learn. His golfing achievements included two memorable holes-in-one at Indian Trails on holes #4 (1992) and #15 (1994). LeRoy also was elected in 1986 to serve on the West Point City Council for Ward 3.
Later in life, LeRoy married Sandy Thompson in 2005, and they built a life together in Elmwood. LeRoy continued his career in groundskeeping and maintenance at Palmyra/Bennet Schools, the Lincoln Regional Center, and the City of Elmwood.
LeRoy loved life and embraced every moment with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy and their beloved Sir Knight of Elmwood; children, Kelli Neiman of Lincoln, Kris Brochtrup of Wilmington, Delaware and Ben (Kelly) Dinslage of West Point; stepchildren, Christopher (Amanda Roane) Halferty and Jennifer Thompson; grandchildren, Jordin, Macen, Braydin, Carsen, Trystan, Gryphen, and Saige Neiman, Devon (Marisa) Archer, Ian and Zane Brochtrup, Myles, Charlie, Harper, and Rowen Dinslage, and Jayden and Isabelle Halferty. He is preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Jerome Dinslage, Carol (Henry) Greve, and infant sister, Joyce Elaine.
