Arrangements by Stokely Funeral Home. Joseph C. Kaup was born on April 28, 1944 to Joseph M. and Elizabeth (Stieren) Kaup on the family farm south of Snyder. He grew up on the farm and attended St. Leo’s Catholic School to the 8th grade. On August 17, 1968, Joe married Connie Schmuecker at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church at St. Charles. The couple farmed on the Kaup family farm until the late 1990’s and still continue to make their home there. In the 1980’s, Joe began working at Snyder Elementary School as a custodian and bus driver. He continued that work for Scribner-Snyder schools for 30 years and also drove the school bus for North Bend schools for the last 5 years. Joe was a member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church where he also taught CCD classes for many years. He has been a stalwart of the Snyder community – helping start the Snyder Senior Center, being a member of the Snyder Community Club, and the Young Farmers and Ranchers. He was a member of the Snyder Lions Club and worked to carry out their mission wherever he could. In recent years, Joe became interested in antique farm equipment and often visited museums to see them. He also loved to have fun, whether that be tailgating, visiting his son Jason’s cabin in Niobrara, or just visiting with friends over a beer. Joe is survived by his wife, Connie, of Scribner; daughter, Lori (Scott) Beale of Firestone, CO; sons, Joe of Hemingford, Jason (Alisha) of Cozad, and Jeremy (Jamie) of Kasson, MN; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Beale, and Chandler, Tanner, Tenley, Landon, and Lincoln Kaup; sisters, Anna (Leo) Goeken of Stanton and Monica (Dennis) Tomka of Howells; and brother-in-law, David (Linda) Schmuecker of West Point. Joe is preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Leonard and Camilla Schmuecker; sister, Jo Ann (Larry) Peterson; brothers, Donald Kaup and Erwin Kaup; brother-in-law, Kenny Schmuecker; and infant son, Nathan Kaup.
