Joan Yosten, 64, of West Point, died Sunday, May 23, 2021 at her home.  Memorial Service will be 10:30am on Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point with Rev. Steve Emanuel as celebrant.  Burial will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery with lunch following at the Nielsen Center.  Visitation with family present will be Tuesday from 5:00pm to 7:00pm with a Vigil Service at 7:00pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  Memorials may be made to the Franciscan Healthcare Foundation.  Arrangements by Stokely Funeral Home.

Joan Louise Yosten was born on June 1, 1956, to Arlin and Junavae (Henry) Feyerherm in Manhattan, KS.  After graduating from high school, she attended Kansas State University and Marymount College, Salina, KS, for her nursing degree to start her fulfilling career in healthcare that drove her each and every day to help all those around her.  While she was living in Omaha and teaching at Methodist, she met the love of her life.  Joan met Jim Yosten in 1981 on a blind date and within six weeks they were officially engaged and married 8 months later on November 7, 1981, at St. Mary’s Parish in West Point. She joined the St. Mary’s Parish. They settled down, made a home, and started a family.  They had four boys, and she was the example of a perfect “boy mom”.  She loved them dearly, and they absolutely adore her.

In 1992, Joan decided to take a leap of faith to help her family and community by going back to school at the University of Nebraska Medical Center to become a Physician Assistant.  While it was tough for her to leave her husband and sons at home for those two years, it really pulled the family closer together.  When she graduated in 1994, they were all beaming with pride.  She absolutely loved her 27-year career with the Franciscan Healthcare Family and cared for her patients like they were family.  As the boys married, Joan loved to spend time with her daughters-in-law and finally got to do “girly” things.  In 2015, Joan become a grandmother and now has 5 grandsons (all December birthdays!) whom she formed an incredible bond with as they lit up her world.  They called her “Ama” and she loved them with her whole heart.  The pride she had for her family was extraordinary, and she loved to show everyone pictures and videos of her grandsons.

Aside from her immediate family, Joan was like a second mom to several nieces and nephews and a best friend to her sister, brother and her many in-laws.   Joan had a heart of gold that will leave a positive impact on her family, friends, co-workers, and community. Those who knew her will dearly miss her smile and fun-loving personality.

Survivors include her husband, Jim; sons, Andy (Jill) and Danny (Kerri) both of Bennington, David of Omaha, and Mark of West Point; grandchildren, Drew, Jaxon, and Trey Yosten, and Braxton and Kaleb Yosten; sister Carol (Rick) Beier of Stillwater, OK; brother Roger (Sarah) Feyerherm of Lenexa, KS; and many nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her parents and mother-in-law, Geraldine Yosten.
