Harold Albertsen, 95, of West Point, died Sunday, November 12, 2017 at Colonial Haven in Beemer. Memorial service will be 2:30pm on Thursday, November 16 at Grace Lutheran Church in West Point with Carl Kramer as officiant. Lunch will be at the church hall following the service. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be Wednesday from 9:00am to 6:00pm at Stokely Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church. Stokely Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Harold Harvey Albertsen was born on October 18, 1922 in Pender to Fred and Dorothea (Breitbarth) Albertsen. He was baptized November 26, 1922 at St John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church near Pender and was confirmed May 28, 1939 at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bancroft. He graduated from Rural School District #78 and worked for several farms in the area. Harold worked for Thietje Texaco in West Point for a couple years, 20 years at Vince Adams International Harvester, and 19 years at Norco feeds where he was known as the’gum man.’ Harold met the love of his life Ernie Priebnow at the popcorn stand on Main Street in West Point and asked her out to dance. They were married on April 24, 1947 at Grace Lutheran Church in West Point. His favorite hobbies were playing cards, hunting, fishing, dancing, and traveling. They traveled all 50 states and enjoyed several trips to Mexico, Canada, and Paris, France. Harold loved to tinker – taking things apart just to see if he could put them back together. Harold was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. Survivors include his wife, Ernie, of Beemer; children, Craig (Mary Sue) Albertsen of Littleton, CO, Peggy (Randy) Schmader of Wichita Falls, TX, and Carol (Larry) Wiechman of West Point; sister, Marilyn (Francis) Schinstock of West Point; grandchildren, Brian Albertsen, Brent (Amanda) Albertsen, Kari (Eric) Tucker, Jeff (Hilary) Albertsen, Laurie (Dan) Venuto, Brian (Camille) Schmader, Kristin (Mike) Lambert, John (Jana) Schmader, Jill (Tanner) Simmons, Holly (Matthew) Whitney, Nicole (Matthew) Goliber, and Julie (Brandon) Meier; and 26 great-grandchildren. Harold is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lester and Lawrence Roy; sister, Margaret Motl; and an infant brother.
