Dorothy Knobbe, 90, of West Point, died Sunday, January 20, 2019 at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in West Point. Funeral Mass will be 10:30am on Friday, January 25 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point with Rev. Steve Emanuel as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery with lunch following at the Nielsen Center. Visitation will be Thursday from 12:00pm to 4:00pm with a Catholic Daughters and Christian Mothers rosary at 1:30pm at Stokely Funeral Home. Visitation will continue from 5:00pm to 7:00pm with a vigil service at 7:00pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Memorials may be made to GACC Endowments or St. Joseph’s Retirement Community. Arrangements by Stokely Funeral Home. Dorothy Ann Wordekemper was born July 6, 1928 to Ben and Elizabeth (Kreikemeier) Wordekemper on the family farm near Aloys. She attended St. Aloysius Catholic School and graduated from Guardian Angels Catholic High School. After high school, Dorothy worked as a legal secretary at Moodie Law Office in West Point. On September 7, 1949, Dorothy married Arthur Knobbe at St. Aloysius Catholic Church at Aloys. The couple farmed near Monterey where they raised cattle, hogs, chickens, and dairy cows. They retired into West Point in the early 1990s. Dorothy was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters, and Christian Mothers. She always kept herself busy with St. Boniface Altar Society, gardening, canning, and being a 4-H leader. Art and Dorothy enjoyed playing cards and in their retirement socialized over a round of golf. Family was very important to Dorothy. She loved taking care of her grandchildren and nothing made her happier than spending time with her three daughters. Survivors include her daughters, Mary (Dick) Stieren of Omaha, Karen (John) Cartwright of Dallas Center, IA, and Jean (Randy) Schinstock of Redding, CA; sons Mike (Patty) Knobbe of West Point and Terry (Lisa) Knobbe of Omaha; grandchildren Jessica (Jack) Kerwin, Sarah (Paul) Lepert, Betsy Cartwright (special friend Naima Nicholson), Greg (Alyssa) Stieren, Ben (Janice) Schinstock, Brian (Kayla) Schinstock, Rachel (Josh) Cole, Stacy (Jim) Parra, and Derek Stieren; great-grandchildren Cole Stephenson, Dylan and Alyse Lepert, Violet Stieren, Remington and Dominic Schinstock, and Josie and Nathan Cole; sister, Bernie Oligmueller of West Point; and sisters-in-law, Sally Wordekemper and Margaret Wordekemper both of West Point. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur on December 8, 2010; siblings, Joe Wordekemper, Ervin Wordekemper, Veronica and brother-in-law Gene Reiman, and Tom and sister-in-law Mary Ann Wordekemper; and brother-in-law, Francis Oligmueller.
