Diana Vice, 76, of Scribner, died Monday, April 15, 2019 at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in West Point. Memorial services will be 2:00pm on Saturday, April 20 at St. John’s Ridgley Lutheran Church, rural Scribner1140 County Road K with Pastor Reverend Dr. Nicki McIntyre as officiant. Refreshments will be served in the fellowship hall following the service. Visitation will be Friday from 3:00pm to 7:00pm with family receiving friends from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at St. John’s Ridgeley Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Scribner Rescue or St. John’s Ridgeley Lutheran Church. Arrangements by Stokely Funeral Home. Diana Mae Vice was born on August 3, 1942 to John and Viola (Lass) Schreck in Florence, NE. She grew up in Crowell, NE and attended country school near Scribner. On July 26, 1957, Diana married DeVerle Smidt and the couple later divorced. Diana worked at Campbell Soup prior to moving to Omaha and married Gary Vice they later divorced. She settled in Scribner where she had various jobs including cooking at Good Samaritan Center, and doing custodial work for the City of Scribner and the Post Office. She was a hard worker and took on whatever jobs she could. She was well known for her potato salad and pan-fried chicken. Diana was a member of St. John’s Ridgeley Lutheran Church at rural Scribner and the Women of the ELCA. Survivors include daughters, Victoria (Terry) Recker of West Point and Patricia (Bruce) Ferguson of North Bend; sons, Steve (Elizabeth) Smidt of West Point and Thomas (Maria) Smidt of Prosser, WA; 21 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; sisters, Doris Orton of Chetek, WI, and Claire Smidt of West Point; brothers, Richard Schreck of West Point and Leonard (Debbie) Schreck of Scribner. Diana was preceded in death by her parents; son, Michael Vice; granddaughter, Chelsie Justina Smidt; and brothers, Ernest, Jack, and Robert Schreck.
