Cecil P. Woodka, 89, of West Point died Sunday, September 14, 2025 at Oakland Heights Nursing Home in Oakland. Memorial services for Cecil Woodka will be on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at 10:30am at Stokely Funeral Home in West Point with burial at a later date. The funeral will be live streamed on the Stokely Funeral Home Facebook page at facebook.com/stokelyfuneralhome. Visitation will be from 9:30am to 10:30am one hour prior to the service. Lunch will be at the Nielsen Center. Memorials may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society. Arrangements by Stokely Funeral Home.
Cecil Paul Woodka was born on March 8, 1936, in Scandia, Kansas to Chester and Lottie (Young) Woodka. The family moved to West Point, Nebraska when Cecil was 3 years old. He attended West Point Public Schools graduating in 1954. He served his country in the United States Air Force Aviation Cadet Program in 1958-59 and began his work at the Rural Electrification Association (now known as Cuming County Public Power District) prior to his marriage to LaVonne Wisch in 1959. To that union were born 2 children, Dawn and Clay.
Cecil worked for the REA for 44 years, beginning as a lineman and working his way up to being the manager for 14 years. He also served as secretary on the Statewide One Call Committee and as President of Statewide Managers. In that role he was able to participate in the People to People program, traveling to Russia and helping them understand irrigation systems. He worked at the CCPPD until his retirement in 1998.
Cecil served the West Point community in a variety of ways: Cub Scout and Boy Scout committee member, Jay Cees, West Point Park Board, 4-H leader, West Point Public Schools Board of Education (20 years) – President (18 years). He served his state through a 12 year term on the Nebraska State Board of Education – Officer (5 years), and as a Committee Member and Chairman of the National Rural and Small Schools Organization. Cecil was awarded the prestigious honor of becoming an Admiral in the Great State of Nebraska Navy for his school board achievements. He also served on the Northeast Community College Foundation Board and on the Lineman School Advisory Committee.
Cecil served his church, St. Paul Lutheran, in a variety of capacities: Chairman, Elder, Treasurer, and Finance Board. His love and support of his church, his family, and his community at various levels will be remembered by many.
Cecil is preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Lottie, his siblings Thelma and Selma Woodka, Alica Woodka, Mabel Smith, Clifford Woodka, Norma Lykins, Ellen Schouten.
Cecil is survived by his wife, LaVonne, his children, Dawn (Joel) Lubker; Clay Woodka; his grandchildren, Max (Nichole) Lubker; Jasmine (David) Holmes; and his great grandchildren Colton Howard, Logan and Liam Lubker; Jaxen and Maverick Holmes; as well as extended family.
