Kenneth Vandenberge, age 100, of West Point, Nebraska passed away Saturday, January 19, 2019, at Premier Estates in West Point. Memorial services will be 10:30 am. on Thursday, January 24th, at Grace Lutheran Church in West Point with Reverend Priscilla Hukki and Reverend Carl Kramer as officiants. Lunch with visitation will follow the service at the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church. Ken donated his body to the Nebraska Anatomical Board. Arrangements by Stokely Funeral Home. Kenneth John Vandenberge was born May 19, 1918 on the family farm east of West Point to Guy and Clara (Risse) Vandenberge. He attended West Point public schools, graduating from West Point High School in 1936. On May 22, 1938, Ken married Alta Moeller in Elk Point, SD. Ken was ran and managed the Gambles store in West Point for 41 years. He was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church, serving on council, boards, and committees, often as president and chairman. Ken was a member of West Point Chamber of Commerce since 1949, served on the board of directors several times and president for one term, chairman of the retail committee for over 20 years, and was West Pointer of the year 1996. Ken was active in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and on Eagle Scout committees, serving as adviser to help seven boys get Eagle badges including sons, Keith and Glen. Survivors include his sons Keith (Phyllis) of Denver, CO and Glen (Diane) of Scottsbluff; grandchildren Kris (Kylie), Kevin (Kirsten), Karin Vandenberge, Lori (Jeff) Schenck, Traci Vandenberge, and Jodi Vandenberge; great-grandchildren, Berkeley and Marisha Vandenberge, Cooper and KJ Schenck, and Anna Davidson. Ken was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alta of 61 years on March 18, 1999; infant daughter, Dottie Lee; and sister, LaRue Brandenburg.
