Doreen Meister, 90, of West Point, died Friday, October 26, 2018 at Parkview Home in Dodge. Funeral Mass will be Monday, October 29 at 10:30am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Reverend Steve Emanuel as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery with lunch following at the Nielsen Center. Visitation will be Sunday from 12:00pm to 7:00pm with a guild rosary at 1:30pm and a vigil service at 6:30pm all at Stokely Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Priest’s Retirement Fund. Arrangements by Stokely Funeral Home. Doreen Josephine Meister was born on February 25, 1928 to Henry and Kunigunda (Schmuecker) Meister on the family farm near Monterey. She attended St. Boniface Catholic School. In 1958, Doreen moved to West Point where she was a caregiver to her parents, worked at Safeway, as a receptionist at the West Point Clinic and finally at Alco. Doreen retired in the mid 1990’s and moved to St. Joseph’s Retirement Community in 2013. Doreen was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Guild and was very faithful to her weekly hour of perpetual adoration. She had a talent for woodworking, using salvaged wood, and making candles to sell. Doreen was known for her excellent baking and candy making. When Doreen wasn’t tending her to flowers, she could be found embroidering or piecing together a quilt. Doreen is survived by her sisters, Veronica Emanuel of North Bend and Henrietta (Ike) Pane of Omaha; brother, Melvin (Delores) Meister of West Point; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Monsignor Andrew Meister and Edward Meister; sister, Hermines Ulrich; and infant sister, Bernadine.
