Lola Ruth Gustafson, 90, of West Point, died Friday, July 27, 2018 at Nye Legacy in Fremont. Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 31 at 10:30am at Trinity Church in West Point with Reverend Les Parmenter as officiant. Burial will be at Westside Cemetery with lunch following at the church hall. Visitation will be Monday from 12:00pm to 8:00pm with family receiving friends from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Stokely Funeral Home in West Point. Memorials may be made to the Cuming County Fair Foundation. Stokely Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Lola Ruth Gustafson was born on December 3, 1927 to Verne and Della (Ayer) Lofgren in West Point. She attended District 13 school and graduated from West Point Public High School in 1945. Lola Ruth went on to receive normal training and taught country school for several years. On September 27, 1947, Lola Ruth married Merle Gustafson at Westside Methodist Church. The couple lived near Wisner and Fremont for several years where Lola worked for Campbell’s Soup. The couple returned to rural Oakland where they farmed and milked dairy cows. In 1991, they retired and moved to West Point. Lola Ruth was a member of Trinity Church. She was big supporter of the Cuming County Fair where she was the Superintendent of Textiles Division for over 30 years. Lola Ruth always had a large garden and enjoyed canning and cooking. Some of her specialties were canned meat, Swedish meatballs, Swedish rye bread, cinnamon pickles and chocolate chip cookies. Lola Ruth spent many hours doing various crafts including quilting, crocheting, and wood painting. Lola Ruth is survived by her sons, Gerald (Cheryl) Gustafson of West Point and Rodney (Carol) Gustafson of Waverly; daughter, Denise (John) Kerschinske of Cedar Bluffs; grandchildren, Lisa (Steven) Groth, David (Melanie) Gustafson, John (Deb) Gustafson, Jason (Keri) Gustafson, Gwen Reinke, and Julius (Olivia) Kerschinske; and 15 great-grandchildren, Ty, Hannah, Brooke, Audra, Jordan, Samuel, Cole, Benjamin, Laike, Makayla, Quenton, Camden, Kortlin, Cullan, and Korben. Lola Ruth is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Merle; brothers, Elwin and Donald Lofgren; granddaughter, Lori Gustafson; and grandson-in-law Ken Reinke.
