Tom Kaup, 59, of West Point, died Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Funeral Mass will be 10:30am on Saturday, March 3 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point with Fr. Steve Emanuel as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Aloysius Cemetery with lunch following at the GACC Cafeteria. Visitation will be Friday from 12:00pm to 6:00pm at Stokely Funeral Home and will continue at St. Mary’s Catholic Church from 7:30pm to 8:00pm with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 8:00pm. A memorial has been established. Stokely Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Thomas Lee Kaup was born on August 16, 1958 to Leander and Pat (Sellhorst) Kaup in West Point. He attended grade school at both St. Aloysius and Pebble Valley schools and graduated from West Point Public High School in 1977. He took classes at Northeast Community College for building construction and graduated in 1979. On January 5, 1980, Tom married Paulette Svitak at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Howells. The couple had three children and lived in Dodge. Tom worked a variety of jobs and eventually moved to West Point and founded Kaup Construction. Tom was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus, Road Gems Car Club, and a board member of F. O. E. Club #3623. He was also a former member of both Dodge and West Point Volunteer Fire Departments. Tom was extremely proud of his daughters and grandchildren and was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone who asked. He was an avid bowler and a member of three bowling leagues. He enjoyed golfing and always had a new joke to tell. Tom loved to cheer on his favorite sports teams: the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Denver Broncos. He continued to help every year with the West Point Fourth of July fireworks show at Neligh Park. Even in death, Tom helped save three lives through organ donation. Survivors include his daughters and their children, Tiffiney (Richard Karash) Kaup of West Point- Riley and Kennedy; Raven (Jay) Gerths of Morrowville, KS- Brock, Connor, Gavin, River, and Knoxley; and Brittany (Kyle) Kreikemeier of Lincoln- Liv and Luca; mother, Pat Kaup of West Point; sisters and their children, Terri Reichlinger of West Point- Jacob, Lucas, and Kayla; Tami Kaup Stieren of Littleton, CO- Josh, Matt, and Alè; Tina (David) Kassmeier of Norfolk- Sidney, Anna, and Bailey; brothers and their children, Tracy (Kelly) of West Point- Eric, Jared, Trisha, and Zach; Troy (Kelly Mahler) of West Point- Samantha; Thad (Regina Maclaine) of Denison, IA; Tony of West Point; Trent (Kim) of West Point- Isabelle, Skylar, Finley, and Kamille; and Travis (Shauna Doescher) of West Point- Abby, Ty, and Addison; sister-in-law and son, JoAnn Kaup of West Point- Nathen; and several great nieces and nephews. Tom is preceded in death by his father, Leander, in 2006; brother, Todd, in 2016; and grandparents.
