Clara Wiesen, 97, of Beemer, formerly of West Point, died Friday, May 19, 2017 at Colonial Haven in Beemer. Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, May 23 at 10:30am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Reverend Steve Emanuel as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery with lunch following at the GACC Cafeteria. Visitation will be Monday from 12:00pm to 7:00pm with a Guild Rosary at 1:30pm and a Vigil Service at 7:00pm all at Stokely Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Colonial Haven Nursing Home or St. Michael’s Cemetery. Clara was born May 13, 1920 southwest of West Point to Charles and Margaret Stratman Gerken. She spent her childhood on the farm and attended St. Anthony’s Catholic School. As a young woman, Clara moved to Omaha doing domestic work for a family and was employed by Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. On October 30, 1947, Clara married Anton Wiesen at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. The couple farmed before moving into West Point in 1967 where Clara worked at St. Francis Memorial Hospital. Clara was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, and VFW Auxiliary. She was known for making various stuffed animals. Clara had many hobbies including bowling, quilting, crafting, and doing puzzles. She also enjoyed socializing with a good card game. Survivors include children, Charles of Sacramento, CA, Sr. Ann of Riverview, FL, Linda of Omaha, Kathleen (Rick) Short of Akeley, MN, Margaret of Lincoln, and Raymond (Bonnie) of Cozad; grandchildren, Rick Short III, Joshua (Cindy), Jacob (Stephanie) and Lucas (Kyle) Wiesen, Rebecca (Brian) Rink, and Seth (Lora) Wiesen; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Jacee, Regan, Barrett, Grace, Claire, Jonah, Jax and Charlee Wiesen, Tanner and Wyatt Rink, and Sawyer and Lenny Wiesen; sister, Marie Gerken of Beemer; sisters-in-law, Emma Heimann of Dodge and Elizabeth French of Boise, ID; brothers-in-law, Cletus (Dorothy) Wiesen of Hendricks, MN and John (Jolene) Wiesen of Fremont; and numerous nieces and nephews. Clara was preceded in death by her husband, Anton’Tony’ in 1981; grandson, William Short; siblings, Herbert (Ethel) Gerken, Leo (Genevieve) Gerken, Pauline Gerken, Charlotte (Victor) Throener, and Ann (Leander) Ernesti; brothers-in-law, Victor Heimann and William French; and sisters-in-law, Mary (Art) Reeson and Margaret (Leo) Neesen.
