Rita Wiechman, 92, of West Point, died Thursday, September 17, 2015 at the West Point Living Center. Funeral Mass will be Monday, September 21 at 10:30am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Reverend Steven Emanuel as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery. Lunch will follow at the Nielsen Center. Visitation will be from 1:00pm to 3:00pm with a guild rosary at 1:30pm on Sunday, September 20 at St Joseph’s Retirement Community Chapel. Visitation will continue from 5:00pm to 7:00pm with a Wake service and American Legion Auxiliary rites at 7:00pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Memorials may be made to GACC Endowment. Rita Marie Wiechman was born on February 9, 1923 to Henry and Anna (Schlecht) Gentrup in West Point. She grew up on the family farm and attended Guardian Angels School. On June 13, 1946, Rita married LeRoy Wiechman. The couple farmed east of West Point where Rita was a diligent homemaker and mother before moving to town in 1986. Rita was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Guild, Christian Mothers, American Legion Auxiliary, and was active in the Isaac Walton League. She did volunteer sewing at the West Point Living Center and enjoyed baking, cooking and playing bingo. Rita is survived by her sons, Robert (Lou Ann), Duane (Deb), Larry (Carol), Glen (Melann) all of West Point, and Jerry (Anita) of Omaha; daughter-in-law Jody Wiechman of West Point; grandchildren Brenda (Mark) Hasenjager, Brian (Gina), Paul (Kiley), and John (Jamie) Wiechman, Matthew, Dustin (Jess), Dan Wiechman, and Deanna (Michael) Mack, Jill (Tanner) Simmons, Holly (Matt) Whitney, Nikki (Matt) Goliber, and Julie (Brandon) Meier, Becki (fiancé Josh Kerns) and Alex Wiechman, Sadi (Nick) VonSeggern, Abby (Jason) Kreikemeier and Jake Wiechman, Jeremy (Amber), Casey, and Andrew (fiancé Kelly Sindelar) Wiechman; 27 great grandchildren; brother Lawrence (Mildred) Gentrup of Fremont; and sister-in-law Wilma Gentrup of West Point. Rita is preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy, in 1998, son David in 2010, infant daughter Mary Jean, granddaughter KayDee, brother Paul Gentrup, step sister Gertrude Spenner, and step brothers Arnold and Frank Spenner.
