LaVerna Bettenhausen, 93, of Beemer, formerly of West Point, died January 15, 2015 at St. Francis Memorial Hospital. Services will be 11:30 am. Saturday, January 24th, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in West Point with Reverend Richard Bringewatt officiating. A luncheon will immediately follow in the church social hall. Burial will occur at St. Mark’s Lutheran Cemetery, rural Pender, at a later date. LaVerna Predoehl was born April 25, 1921 to Otto and Sophia Roth Predoehl. She experienced the simple life of growing up on the farm during the economic woes of the 1930’s depression. She attended Zion Lutheran Church School and at the age of 16, became a teacher for school districts in Cuming County. In May of 1943, she married Lloyd Siemers at rural Wisner and they moved to the farm at Pender. After moving to Pender, LaVerna worked at Automatic Manufacturing Company and almost 30 years at Ken’s Drug. Upon her retirement, LaVerna married Virgil Bettenhausen, a former neighbor boy she attended grade school with, at Zion Lutheran School, rural Bancroft. LaVerna and Virgil lived at St. Joseph’s Retirement Center in West Point and Colonial Haven in Beemer. LaVerna touched and influenced the lives of all her family and friends. She had a strong faith as she shared with those around her. Survivors include sons Lanny (Barbara) Siemers of Rockford Ill., Gayle (Helen) Siemers of Polson, Mont., stepsons Roger (Marilyn) Bettenhausen of Columbus, Clark, and Bryan (Sheri) Bettenhausen of West Point; stepdaughters Ruth (Jim) Adams of Janesville Wisc. and Lois (LaVern) Pfeiffer of Scribner; grandchildren Jeffrey (Cheryl) Siemers, Jeremy (Mary) Siemers, Melissa (Ryan) Vyborny, Erin (Mike) Hendricks, John (Rebecca) Siemers, Katherine Messer and Ben Messer and Bettenhausen stepgrandchildren; great-grandchildren Ella Siemers, Henry, Daniel, and Jack Siemers, Elsa, Xander and Miles Vyborny, and Avery and Carter Hendricks. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Lloyd, in February of 1967 and Virgil in March of 2010; her siblings Elfreda Hermelbrecht, Art Predoehl, Leona Schilling, Ruth Canarsky, Melvin Predoehl, Harold Predoehl, Vernon Predoehl, Elaine Beyers, Phyllis Woodsworth and an infant brother, Otto.
