Richard Coufal, Sr., 87, of Howells died Thursday, October 16, 2014 at Providence Place in Fremont. Funeral Mass 10:30am Monday at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Howells, with Reverend Leo Rigatuso as celebrant. Burial at the parish cemetery. Wake Service 7:00pm Sunday, Visitation 3:00pm until 7:00pm Sunday, both at the church in Howells. A memorial has been established. Richard A. Coufal was born May 31, 1927 on the family farm in Cuming County near Howells to Joseph and Rose (Vondruska) Coufal. He grew up on the farm and attended country school. On June 15, 1949, Richard married Evelyn A. Kander at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Howells. The couple farmed in southwest Cuming County; established the family corporation, CTC Farms, Inc., in 1979; moved to Columbus in 1992, where Richard worked as a security guard for Pinkerton Security; and moved back to Howells in 1998. Richard was a member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed fishing and playing the card game Taroks, and was an avid collector of John Deere tractors and clocks. Survivors include his wife Evelyn of Howells; daughters Marge (Gene) Brabec of Clarkson, Marilyn (Joe) Sindelar of Howells, Eileen (Jim) Eikmeier of Henderson, Rosemary (Steve) Petersen of Auburn, and Bonnie (Duane) Franzluebbers of Elkhorn; sons Ron (Pat) Coufal, Richard ‘ bud’ (Marty) Coufal, Jr., Don (Nancy) Coufal, and Paul (Sheri) Coufal, all of Howells; sister-in-law Gladys Coufal of Howells; 30 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren; sister Tillie Gall and infant sister Mamie; and brothers Millard and Leonard.
