Hubert Groene, 86, of rural West Point died Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at West Point Living Center. Funeral Mass will be 10:30am Saturday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Aloys, with Reverend Gerald Gonderinger as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery. Wake Service will be 7:00pm Friday at Stokely Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be 3:00pm until 7:00pm Friday at Stokely Funeral Home. A memorial has been established. Hubert Anton Groene was born May 24, 1927 on the family farm near Aloys to Ferdinand and Margaret (Stieren) Groene. He attended St. Aloysius Catholic School and lived his life on the family farm, working with his parents and brothers. Hubert did farm work in Colfax County, enjoyed welding, and working with livestock. He retired from farming in 1994. Survivors include his brother John Groene of Schuyler; sister Elizabeth Ernesti of West Point; and numerous nieces and nephews. Hubert was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Edward, Joe, Paul, and Clem; and sisters Theresa Peatrowsky and Gertrude Groene. Stokely Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
