Paul Steuter, 91, of West Point died Friday August 2, 2013 at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in West Point. Memorial Mass will be 10:30am Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Reverend Frank Lordemann as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery. Wake Service with Knights of Columbus Rosary will be 6:00pm Sunday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Visitation will be 4:00-6:00pm at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Guardian Angels Central Catholic endowment. Paul Francis Steuter was born March 4, 1922 in West Point to Henry and Catherine (Lummel) Steuter. He graduated from Guardian Angels High School in 1939 and attended seminary at Conception, MO. On May 20, 1948, Paul married Bertha Kreikemeier at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Monterey. Following employment at a defense plant in Chicago, Paul returned to work the family’s diversified farming operation. He and Bertha moved to West Point in 1984. Paul was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where he served on the parish council and fourth degree Knights of Columbus, serving as treasurer and grand knight. With his love of singing, Paul was one of the original cantors at St. Mary’s and sang in the funeral choir. Paul was a member of Toast Masters and Cuming County Choraliers, served on the Board of Directors for the Farmers Coop, and was a Vietnamese family sponsor. Paul, who greatly enjoyed nature and marveled at God’s creation, will be remembered as a fun-loving man. Survivors include Paul’s wife Bertha of West Point; children Sophie (Don) Boden of Del Ray Beach, FL, Al (Lois) Steuter of Johnstown, NE, Stanley (Julie) Steuter of Elk River, MN, Steve Steuter of Phoenix, AZ, Kathy (Kim) Wagner of West Point, David Steuter of Phoenix, AZ, Susan (Craig) Harms of Manhattan, KS, Judy (Doug) Lane of Omaha, Paul Steuter of West Point, Lori (Tom) Cardella of Plantation, FL, Lisa (Paul) Stokman of Maple Lake, MN, and Jenny (Kevin) Oligmueller of Alliance, NE; 44 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Rita Steuter of West Point; and brother-in-law Joe Dinslage of West Point. Paul was preceded in death by his parents; brother Fred Steuter; sister Agnella Dinslage; and infant grandson Charlie Stokman. Stokely Funeral Home of West Point in charge of arrangements.
