Marvin Kucera, 75, of Dodge, died Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at Fremont Health Center. Funeral Mass will be 10:00am on Saturday, November 17 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dodge with Rev. An Duy Phan as celebrant. Burial with military honors will be at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery with lunch following at the church hall. Visitation will be Friday from 3:00pm to 7:00pm with a Vigil Service at 7:00pm all at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Memorials may be made to the Dodge Fire Department or St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Arrangements by Stokely Funeral Home.
Marvin Rudolph Kucera was born on December 1, 1942 to Rudolph and Julia (Dohse) Kucera in Dodge. He grew up on a farm south of Howells and graduated from Schuyler High School in 1961. Marvin joined the United States Navy in 1961 where he was stationed on the USS O’Brien. After being honorably discharged in 1963, he attended Northeast Community College in Norfolk. On November 6, 1965, Marvin married Charlene Mandel at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dodge. Marvin farmed and worked various jobs including Dodge Manufacturing and Marv’s Grocery Store until his retirement in 2013.
Marvin was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and a prior president of the Dodge Volunteer Fire Department. Along with his love to be outdoors fishing and hunting, Marvin enjoyed American history, playing cards, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Charlene, of Dodge; daughters, Jody (Doug) Sheppard of Fremont and Amy (Jason) Brester of Sioux City, IA; grandchildren, Derrick, Kallin, and Emmalee Sheppard, and Halle, Ella, and Peyton Brester; and sister, Elaine (LaVern) Beringer of Octavia. He is preceded in death by his parents.
