Betty Weiler, 76, of West Point, died Monday, April 30, 2018 at her home surrounded by family. Funeral Mass will be 10:30am Thursday, May 3 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point with Reverend Steve Emanuel as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery with lunch following at the Nielsen Center. Visitation will be Wednesday from 12:00pm to 4:00pm with a guild rosary at 1:30pm at Stokely Funeral Home. Visitation will continue from 5:00pm to 7:00pm with a Vigil Service at 7:00pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Memorials may be made to the West Point Central Catholic High School Endowment.
Betty Jean Weiler was born on June 25, 1941 to BJ and Lena (Gentrup) Kreikemeier on the family farm near Monterey. She attended St. Boniface Catholic School to the 8th grade and graduated from Guardian Angels High School in 1959. After high school, Betty lived in Omaha where she worked at Mutual of Omaha. On April 30, 1960, Betty married Dennis Weiler at St. Boniface Catholic Church at Monterey. The couple farmed north of West Point where they lived for their entire married lives. Betty was a homemaker while raising their children before working as the beloved secretary at West Point Central Catholic High School from 1983-2008.
Betty was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Guild, Christian Mothers, and Catholic Daughters. She was a member and past president of the Cuming County Porkettes. Betty was an avid candy maker, which many enjoyed along with the County Fair judges. She loved to bake. Her grandchildren especially loved her peanut bars and sticky rolls. She was a big fan of Betty Boop and Elvis and enjoyed attending the Betty Conference every year in Grand Island for all persons named 'Betty.' She had a kind word and a warm smile for everyone she met. She had a special place in her heart for all of 'her kids' at Central Catholic. Betty loved to travel, especially while riding on the back of the motorcycle with Dennis.
Survivors include her husband, Dennis, of West Point; children, Steve (Jane) Weiler of West Point, Tim (Laura) Weiler of Omaha, Lori Weiler of Omaha, Brian (Anne) Weiler of Denver, CO, Tami Peterson of Dallas, TX, and Sandra (Corey) Spiehs of Cairo; grandchildren, Zach (Lisa) Weiler, Jenica (John) Dietrich, Kara (Josh) Perchal, Anna Weiler, Kelly and Allison Weiler, Brad Perry, Noah Weiler, Derek and Sean Peterson, and Riley and Macey Spiehs; 6 great-grandchildren; and brother, Donald (Janice) Kreikemeier of Fremont.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Marcella Luebbert and Andrew Kreikemeier.
